Description

4/10/23 – This is an excellent example of a scarce Danzig Karabiner 98 issued to the Imperial German Army in 1911. It is almost entirely matching, except for the front sight. It has a “1920” stamp on the receiver. This is a government property mark that indicated the gun remained in government service after the war. This was required by Germany to comply with the Treaty of Versailles. The metal parts are excellent as the gun has been refinished. There is minor wear on the front barrel band, some minor discoloration on the receiver, and some freckling on the floor plate. The stock is numbered and matching, but the numbering is very faint. The stock is excellent but has been sanded. There is a small area of what looks like pink paint on the underside of the butt stock. The bore has good rifling, but there is pin-pricking throughout.
