3/14/25 – This is an outstanding example of the iconic Mark I Trench Knife, manufactured by L.F. & C. in 1918, and issued to the US military during WW1. In contrast with most remaining examples, the blade on this knife retains nearly all of its original finish, showing only some minor scabbard rub wear towards and tip, base, and along some of the high edges. The blade has been very lightly honed; just enough to keep the knife usefully sharp while not impacting the edge profile. The handle is also in phenomenal shape, with the finish nearly intact, and the “U.S.1918 LF&C-1918” marking on the right side perfectly crisp. The scabbard still has most of its finish, and is properly maker-stamped “L.F.&C. 1918” near the throat, but does have mild spotty patina and light oxidation throughout. Both prongs are broken off, as is usually the case with these, and the rivets have been smoothed accordingly.
