Description
10/21/24 – This is an original 19th century French breast and back plate or cuirass. The steel and brass breast plate has a star burst and French eagle insignia on the front. One of the shoulder straps is missing. The other includes its original leather, but it has torn away from the armor. The breast plate is numbered “597”. Both the breast plate and back plate have the French makers mark and a date – we believe it says “1858”. The armor is in very nice condition overall considering its age. There are just small dings and scratches visible on the brass throughout. It also comes with an original helmet. The leather strapping, leather liner, and original horse hair is completely intact.
