Description
7/26/23 – This is a nice example of an early Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 rifle. The serial number on the receiver dates to 1909, the barrel is RIA marked and dated June of 1909, and the stock has a crisp military cartouche dated 1909. The metal parts have retained less than half of their original finish with obvious wear, brown patina, and spotty oxidation throughout. There is no major damage to the wood, but there are obvious dings, bruises, and scratches throughout. Comes with a period-correct sling that has the RIA makers mark and is dated 1908. The bore is shiny for the most part with strong rifling, but there is some minor pitting here and there.
