Description
9/10/24 – This is an excellent example of a factory made WW2 type 98 Japanese Officer’s sword. The blade on this sword is in excellent condition, with a strong visible temper line (Hamon) and it’s original edge. The blade only has minor blemishes, and there is a trace mark of a finger print on the spine of the blade. Overall though the blade is in excellent condition with no chips on the blade edge. The scabbard is the standard metal and painted construction for the type 98. The scabbard maintains almost all of its original paint with a some nicks and chips in some areas. Additionally, there are some small dents in the scabbard, but these dents are superficial and do not effect the function of the scabbard. This sword came to us with an original WW2 era silk tag. While we cannot guarantee that the tag is original to the sword, if it is, then this sword was owned during the war by a Captain Sakamoto.
