9/29/23 – This is a nice Winchester Model 1897 Trench Gun Build. The serial number on the gun itself dates to about 1922 and is outside the accepted serial range for guns of this configuration. The heat shield, wood forend, and leather sling are reproduction and were added later. The gun itself has lost nearly all of its finish with spotty brown patina throughout. Some discoloration on the heat shield. There are a couple of holes drilled into the end of the magazine tube. Excellent wood furniture. The bore has spotty surface oxidation and pitting.
